Welcome to Sunset View Elementary School. I am pleased and proud to be principal of this truly fantastic school. If you don't already know, you will soon discover that it truly is a "Whale of a School!"

My entire professional career has been spent in the San Diego Unified School District. I began my career at Balboa Elementary School where I spent sixteen years teaching grades 2-6. I left Balboa for the unique opportunity to help open Dingeman Elementary School. Dingeman was my family's neighborhood school and I had the great pleasure of having my daughter, Elizabeth, in my fourth grade class. After twenty-one years as a classroom teacher I became Vice Principal at Chavez Elementary before becoming principal at Sunset View in 2002. I cherish every day at our wonderful school that has the best students, exceptional teachers, fantastic support staff, and the most supportive parents. Together, we make a difference!

I firmly believe that at Sunset View we should be creating avid, lifelong readers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists, who are physically fit, computer literate, bi-literate, and socially aware.  This phrase has grown and expanded over the years as my teaching experience grew and my own two children, Matthew and Elizabeth, moved thru our public schools. Because of my experiences as an educator and a parent, I have come to the realization that our ultimate goal, at this level, is to provide a strong educational foundation and instill a love of learning. I am sure that if we accomplish this goal, our students will achieve at the highest levels and become active and productive adults who pursue knowledge and learning on their own.
