Sunset View offers students unparalleled opportunities to explore learning through the use of technology. The teaching staff of Sunset View are fundamentally committed to the use of technology to support state curriculum standards. Their commitment to technology is exemplified by the many hours of staff development devoted each year to improving teaching strategies and to understanding new and existing technologies for classroom use.

For this year (2006-2007), our staff continues to learn to use new applications such as KIDPIX4, GRAPHERS and TOUCHTYPING. We remain very excited about our new subscription to United Streaming. United Streaming gives students and staff access to thousands of hours of educational content “streamed” over the internet and available to all classrooms.

We are also looking forward to purchasing Microsoft Office XP Professional for every classroom. Our current version (1997) of MS Office is outdated and badly in need of upgrade.

Last year, teachers at Sunset View spent several days reviewing technology standards published by San Diego Unified School District and national standards as articulated by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).

Working collaboratively in grade level groups, teachers reviewed and discussed every technology standard as published by SDUSD and ISTE so that they might frame a program that is uniquely suited to the students of Sunset View.

Teachers then decided on a framework of standards which paralleled the SDUSD and ISTE documents but offered certain refinements to best meet the needs of Sunset View students.

A draft of these newly revised standards can be found on the Sunset View school web page. Readers are reminded that this document is a draft and represents a work in progress. Certain links within the document are no longer active and teachers will be making additional modifications this year.
